“Addiction Incorporated” at the Lagoon Theater, March 9 – 15

****WE ARE GOING TO SEE THE MOVE ON MONDAY, MARCH 12, 2012 @ 7:PM, IF YOU ARE INTERESTING, PLEASE JOIN US. FREE TICKETS, IF YOU CALL THIS #651-275-3342 BY SUNDAY EVENING.

In theaters this winter, ADDICTION INCORPORATED tells the explosive story of Victor DeNoble. In the 1980s, DeNoble was a research scientist at a major tobacco company, where he was tasked with finding a substitute for nicotine that would not cause heart attacks. He succeeded, but in the process, produced something that the industry had been denying and avoiding for years: scientific evidence that nicotine was addictive.

Instead of remaining silent, DeNoble became one of the most important and influential whistleblowers of all time- testifying before Congress and setting off a chain of events that reverberates today.

STEEP’s Nutrition 101

This morning we met with Theresa Leonard to learn about basic nutrition with an emphasizes on the Asian communities. Her back ground in international nutrition at several countries gave her a unique ability to help us sort through and understand the Southeast Asian diet.    We learned several new concepts.  Vitamins and minerals are needed by our bodies to function well and the foods that provide them to us.  The B complex and vitamin C are needed everyday to replenish the stored vitamin.  Simple sugars provide energy and are found in fruits and vegetables.

Your brain can only use glucose (simple sugar) for energy, power, and strength.  However, too much sugar can be harmful to the body.

Your body requires energy to:  Think, grow hair, create blood cells, sleep, lounge, and  heart to beat.

We all felt that this was an truly great learning experience.  Theresa also told us that Asian food is one of the healthiest diets.

Now is the time to call your senator, legislator, and even the Govenor to let them know how much you enjoy the smokefree laws. Right now there is a bill in the House and Senate that would take away some of the strength of the laws. You can ask your friends to call too.

Go here to find your representative. http://www.gis.leg.mn/OpenLayers/districts/
